LG Chairmen, Labour Leaders Back APC; Say Governor’s Performance Has Made Campaigning Easier

DEKINA/OMALA, KOGI STATE — The Workplace Security Campaign across Kogi State has recorded a major breakthrough as the sensitisation programme enters its second phase, with workers and labour leaders in visited Local Government Areas declaring overwhelming support for the continued administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The campaign, which is being taken to the 21 Local Government Areas of the state, has continued to generate strong reactions from workers, union leaders and political stakeholders, who described the initiative as a strategic grassroots mobilisation effort capable of deepening the relationship between government and the organised labour community.
At the various councils visited, workers reportedly highlighted what they described as significant improvements in workers’ welfare under the present administration, insisting that the government’s record had already created a strong political foundation ahead of the 2027 elections.
For several labour leaders, the argument was simple: a government that delivers does not need to campaign endlessly for its achievements.
They maintained that Governor Ododo had effectively “campaigned for himself” through policies and actions they said had positively impacted workers and communities.
The Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area, Hon. John Urah Ikani, described the Workplace Security Campaign as a timely and result-oriented initiative capable of strengthening government-worker relations and consolidating grassroots support.
Speaking when the team visited the Dekina Local Government Secretariat, Ikani commended Governor Ododo for approving the programme, saying it had made political engagement with workers easier.
He described the Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, as a “successful fighter” and congratulated the APC for having him as one of its frontline members.
According to him, the cordial relationship between the council leadership and workers is evidence of the administration’s commitment to responsive leadership.
Ikani assured the campaign team that workers in Dekina remained firmly behind the government, stressing that the administration’s actions had strengthened confidence among the workforce.
In Omala, the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Edibo Ameh Mark, equally endorsed the campaign, stressing that a strong partnership between government and labour was indispensable to the successful implementation of government policies and programmes.
Mark said Governor Ododo had made political campaigns considerably easier by “doing the right things” through responsive governance.
He particularly commended the Governor for strengthening security in Omala, citing the establishment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Bagana as an important intervention that has boosted security confidence in the area.
The Chairman argued that improved security, workers’ welfare and responsive governance would play significant roles in determining political outcomes in 2027.
LABOUR: NO INTENSIVE CAMPAIGN NEEDED
Labour leaders in both Dekina and Omala Local Government Areas pledged their support for the re-election of Governor Ododo and President Tinubu, linking their position to what they described as sustained attention to workers’ welfare and security.
The leaders maintained that workers who feel protected and valued by government are more likely to defend and support such an administration at the polls.
Addressing the gathering, Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, said workplace security remained a critical component of workers’ welfare and economic development.
Edoka noted that the challenges confronting contemporary society made security a matter that could no longer be treated as secondary.
He highlighted various interventions of the Ododo administration and urged workers to support the Governor’s second-term ambition as well as President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
He argued that political stability, job security and sustainable development were interconnected, insisting that continuity would be necessary to consolidate the gains already recorded.
“ODODO HAS ALREADY CAMPAIGNED FOR HIMSELF”
The recurring message from workers and labour leaders during the campaign was that the Governor’s record would ultimately speak louder than political rhetoric.
According to them, the growing grassroots acceptance of the Workplace Security Campaign demonstrates that workers are not only interested in political promises but also in tangible evidence of government responsiveness.
The Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Gabriel Amari, expressed appreciation to workers in Dekina and Omala for the warm reception accorded the campaign team.
He reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement between labour and government, particularly on issues relating to job security, workers’ welfare and institutional stability.
With the campaign now moving into its second phase, organisers say the objective is not merely to mobilise workers politically but to deepen awareness of government policies, strengthen workplace security and build a stronger partnership between the workforce and government ahead of the 2027 elections.
