Ododo Moves To End Kabba Water Crisis, Approves ₦2M-Litre Daily Scheme Upgrade

New Kabba Water Scheme to rise from 500,000 to 2 million litres daily as contractor mobilises to site

The administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has moved to tackle the perennial potable water challenge in Kabba, with the rehabilitation and major upgrade of the New Kabba Water Scheme set to commence immediately.

The project, being handled by DALFAM NIG. LTD, will see the scheme’s capacity expanded from its original design of 500,000 litres per day to a massive 2 million litres daily, in response to the rising population and increasing water demand in the ancient town.

Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Yahaya M.D. Farouk, FNSE, disclosed this in his office in Lokoja, saying funds for the project had already been released by the state government to enable the contractor commence work.

According to him, the decision to upgrade the facility rather than retain its original capacity was informed by the need to provide a sustainable water supply capable of serving the growing population of Kabba.

He said the contractor was expected to mobilise to the site any moment from now, expressing confidence that the project would significantly improve the quality of life of residents.

Farouk described the approval and release of funds by Governor Ododo as evidence of the administration’s determination to confront the water challenges confronting communities across the state.

«“The approval and release of the funds by the Chief Servant, His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, is a further demonstration that the Governor means well for the people. He feels the pains of his people and is taking practical steps to address the challenges of potable water across the state,” he said.»

The Commissioner declared that the long-standing water challenge in Kabba would soon become a thing of the past, stressing that access to potable water remains a basic necessity that transcends political and social boundaries.

«“Very soon, the water issue in Kabba would be a thing of the past. Water is believed to have no enemy. The Governor knows this, and so water would flow everywhere across Kabba township,” Farouk said.»

Greater Lokoja Water Scheme Gets Fresh Push

The Commissioner also disclosed that work had commenced on the Greater Lokoja Water Scheme, assuring residents of the state capital and adjoining communities that the project was progressing.

He said pumping from the Greater Lokoja scheme was expected to commence before the end of the year, while the old Lokoja Water Works would continue to supply water to parts of the metropolitan area.

The twin interventions in Kabba and Lokoja, according to the Commissioner, underscore the Ododo administration’s renewed push to expand access to potable water and strengthen the state’s water infrastructure.
