In a strategic move aimed at enhancing transportation and economic development, the Kogi State Government has announced its commitment to investing in water transportation.

The Hon. Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Atuluku Victor Levi, made this announcement during a meeting with the Executive Members of the Rivers Transport Union, Kogi State Chapter.

During the meeting, Hon. Atuluku revealed that efforts are underway to establish the Kogi State Inland Waterways Authority, which will collaborate with the National Inland Waterways Authority to promote water transportation. This initiative is expected to create job opportunities and generate revenue for the state.

The commissioner emphasized the significance of water transportation, noting that it is the oldest form of transportation and requires immediate attention to operate efficiently. He assured the transport union of the state government’s commitment to exploring this avenue and addressing their concerns.

Comr. Momoh Sani Usman, the State Secretary of the Rivers Transport Union, welcomed the government’s efforts and expressed the union’s dedication to working with the Ministry of Transportation to achieve common goals.

Furthermore, Comr. Hassan Abdulrahaman, the Chairman of the Ferry Services, outlined the financial challenges faced by the union and requested the state government’s assistance in ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.

In response, Hon. Atuluku affirmed the ministry’s unwavering support for the union and instructed them to submit a well-prepared document to address their outstanding issues with the state government.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Hajiya Alami Audu, encouraged the union to take advantage of the available opportunities to enhance their performance.
