Kogi Rebrand 2026 And The New Era of Agricultural Prosperity

By Salawu Nneka Patience   The Kogi State Government has intensified efforts to reposition the state’s image through its flagship “Kogi Rebrand 2026” initiative, with particular emphasis on the notable strides recorded in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. This initiative, which constitutes a critical component of the administration’s overarching development agenda, underscores deliberate and sustained investments aimed at transforming agriculture into a viable engine of economic growth, food sufficiency, and rural development. It highlights measurable progress in enhancing food production, strengthening value chains, and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the state.   Central to these achievements is the systematic and equitable distribution of fertilizers and other essential agricultural inputs to farmers across all the twenty-one Local Government Areas of Kogi State. This large-scale intervention has ensured timely access to improved seedlings, agrochemicals, and soil-enhancing inputs for both smallholder and commercial farmers. By addressing longstanding constraints related to input availability and affordability, the administration has significantly expanded cultivation activities and enhanced productivity across key agricultural zones. The Kogi State Government has intensified efforts to reposition the state’s image through its flagship “Kogi Rebrand 2026” initiative, with particular emphasis on the notable strides recorded in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Consequently, there has been a marked increase in the production of staple crops such as rice, cassava, maize, and sorghum, thereby strengthening food availability within the state and reducing reliance on external supply sources.

In furtherance of its commitment to modernizing the agricultural sector, the administration has scaled up mechanized farming through the provision of tractors, harvesters, and other farm implements, alongside technical extension services.

These interventions have facilitated the adoption of efficient and climate-resilient farming practices, leading to improved yields and optimized resource utilization.

Beyond primary production, the Kogi State Government is making strategic investments in agro-industrialization through the development of the Special Agro-Processing Zone in Ajaokuta. This flagship initiative is designed to serve as a hub for large-scale agro-processing, value addition, and agribusiness investment, thereby positioning the state as a key player in Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.

Complementing this effort is the establishment of agricultural transformation centres in Osara, Alape, and Ayingba. These centres are envisioned as critical aggregation, processing, and logistics hubs that will support farmers, reduce post-harvest losses, and facilitate market access. Collectively, these initiatives are expected to stimulate rural industrialization, create employment opportunities, and enhance the overall competitiveness of the state’s agricultural sector.

Farmer empowerment remains a central pillar of the administration’s strategy. Thousands of farmers have benefited from targeted capacity-building programmes focused on modern agricultural techniques, agribusiness management, and sustainable practices.

In addition, expanded access to financing and input support schemes has enabled beneficiaries to scale up their operations and transition towards commercial agriculture.

In line with its forward-looking vision, the administration has also introduced specialized training programmes for youths in soilless farming techniques, particularly hydroponics. This innovative approach to agriculture, which allows for crop cultivation without soil, is aimed at equipping young people with modern, space-efficient, and technology-driven farming skills. The initiative not only broadens opportunities for youth engagement in agriculture but also promotes year-round production, resource efficiency, and resilience against climate variability.

The administration is also actively promoting inclusive participation by encouraging greater involvement of youth and women in agriculture. Through structured programmes and targeted interventions, these groups are being equipped with the necessary skills, resources, and opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the sector.

In consolidating these gains, the Ododo administration continues to lay a solid foundation for long-term food security, economic diversification, and inclusive growth, reaffirming its commitment to transforming Kogi State into a leading agricultural hub in Nigeria.
