LOKOJA — The Kogi State Ministry of Health has concluded a two-day Joint Annual Review (JAR) and 2026 Annual Operational Plan (AOP) Mid-Year Review aimed at strengthening healthcare service delivery through improved planning, efficient resource management and performance assessment.
Speaking at the close of the review, the Honourable Coordinating Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Maji Enoch, said the exercise aligns with the strategic framework of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for improving healthcare delivery across the country.
He noted that the review provides a comprehensive platform to evaluate the performance of the health sector, identify achievements, assess challenges and develop practical strategies for improved service delivery.
According to him, the Kogi State Government has continued to accord the health sector top priority, stressing that regular performance reviews are essential for enhancing efficiency, strengthening accountability and ensuring the prudent management of available resources.
Mr. Maji reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that quality healthcare services remain accessible to all residents of the state through evidence-based planning, strategic collaboration and continuous improvement.
Also speaking, the State Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) Desk Officer, Dr. Bola Emmanuel Jonah Kelvin, explained that the primary objective of the review was to assess progress towards achieving the state’s health sector goals while improving the performance of all agencies, institutions and health programmes.
He said the exercise also focused on ensuring that available resources are allocated in line with established priorities and standards to promote transparency, accountability and the effective implementation of health sector development programmes.
Dr. Bola added that the review examined areas where significant progress had been recorded while identifying gaps requiring urgent attention to further enhance performance across the sector.
In his remarks, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the Ministry of Health, Mr. Johnson Aiyedogbon, reiterated that the ultimate objective of the review was to ensure that all stakeholders work in alignment with the state’s strategic plans and approved implementation framework for improved health sector performance.
He added that the review is geared towards accelerating the attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Kogi State while strengthening collaboration among agencies and institutions within the health sector.
In his goodwill message, the representative of the National SWAp Desk Office at the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Abraham Ahmadu, commended the impressive performance recorded by Kogi State during the Joint Annual Review.
He praised the commitment of the Kogi State Government, under the leadership of the Honourable Coordinating Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, to strengthening healthcare delivery and improving health outcomes for the people of the state.
Dr. Ahmadu further expressed the readiness of the National SWAp Office to sustain its collaboration with Kogi State in advancing reforms and supporting the state’s drive towards sustainable growth and improved healthcare delivery.
During the review, presentations were made by state health institutions, agencies, specialist and general hospitals, primary healthcare facilities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and implementing partners.
