In his Democracy Day message to Nigerians on Friday, Governor Ododo congratulated citizens on another milestone in the country's democratic journey, urging them to reflect on the sacrifices of heroes who fought for democratic governance in Nigeria. The Governor noted that Democracy Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the resilience of democratic institutions and the collective efforts that have sustained the nation's democratic ideals over the years. Quoting former American President Abraham Lincoln's famous definition of democracy as "government of the people, by the people, for the people," Ododo emphasized that democracy thrives not only through the election of leaders but also through active citizen participation in governance and nation-building. He stressed that despite the challenges confronting the nation, democracy remains the most effective framework for promoting peace, development, participation, and good governance. Governor Ododo urged Nigerians to safeguard the gains of democracy, which he said were secured through years of struggle and sacrifice by patriotic citizens who envisioned a better nation.
