Kogi State has been chosen For National Sustainability HIV Impact Project (N-SHIP) , a significant initiative aimed at bolstering the state’s response to HIV.
Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC-Nigeria), the project aims to strengthen the capacity of the National AIDS & STI Control Program (NASCP) and its state counterparts in managing and sustaining an effective HIV program in country.
A two-day stakeholders meeting was convened in Lokoja by FMOH/ NASCP in collaboration with State Ministry Of Health(SMOH) to kickstart the project’s implementation.
The meeting brought together representatives from various works of life, including the FMOH, State Ministry of Health,State agencies like State AIDS Control Agency (SACA), KSPHCDA, KSHIA, KSHMB and HIV implementing partners( CIHP, AHF & ARFH), Network of people with HIV Association of Nigeria( NEPWHAN)) plus CSO.
During the meeting, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Enehe Docas Omeneke, underscored the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the success of the project.
In a related development, the FMOH through National AIDS & STI Control Progam has secured grant from the U.S. government, via CDC- Nigeria, to support the Project.
The representative of the NASCP Coordinator, Dr Peter Okennanya highlighted that the project aims to entrench the country drive for HIV program sustainability across 18 states in the federation and Kogi State happened to be selected in the phase 2 of the project.
The CDC-Nigeria Country Office has been providing guidance and support for Nigeria’s HIV response.The Federal Ministry of Health through NASCP, remains dedicated to supporting Kogi State in achieving National Sustainability HIV Impact Project( N- SHIP) targets.
