Kogi State Government has challenged the people of the state to hold government and its functionaries accountable.

The State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Kingsle Fanwo who threw the challenge at a townhall meeting in Iyara, Ijumu Local Government Area of the state, said the essence of the meeting is to get feedbacks from the people.

He disclosed that the administration of Gov Yahaya Bello is very much committed to open and accountable governance, adding that the administration would continue to provide the enabling environment for very robust conversation between the led and the leaders in the State.

He urged the people to take advantage of the soon to be launched Kogi State Good Governance and Accountability System to hold and challenge those in leadership to be responsible and responsive to the people.

 

Speaking on the various achievements of the present administration, Hon Fanwo said a lot has been achieved, but that government is still not resting on it oars, adding that a lot of benefits still awaits the people of the Local Government.

He enumerated achievements in the areas of health, education, infrastructure and security, which he noted are present for the people to see and attest to.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Local Government, Alhaji Taofiq Isah commended the initiative behind the townhall meetings, adding the his council is honoured to host the first edition.

He assured the state government of the commitment of the council to the maintenance of peacefully coextense, law and order, stating that a security infrastructure has been put in place in the council area to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
