The Kogi State Security Trust Fund (KGSSTF), in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has successfully concluded a three-day specialized drivers’ training programme designed to enhance the capacity, professionalism and operational efficiency of drivers serving across various security agencies in Kogi State.
The intensive training, which brought together drivers from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigeria Navy, Vigilante Service and other security organizations focused on defensive driving techniques, road safety regulations, convoy driving, vehicle maintenance, emergency response procedures, accident prevention, and the importance of discipline and professionalism while on official duty.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Security Trust Fund, Air Vice Marshal Omeiza Umar, DSS, MSS, FWC (Rtd.), described the training as another demonstration of the Fund’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the operational capabilities of security agencies through continuous capacity building.
He noted that security personnel spend a considerable amount of time on the road while responding to emergencies and carrying out operational assignments, making it imperative for their drivers to possess the highest level of driving competence, safety consciousness and professionalism.
According to him, the training was carefully designed to equip participants with modern driving skills that would not only safeguard their lives and those of other road users but also enhance the effectiveness of security operations across the state.
The Executive Chairman commended the Federal Road Safety Corps for its technical partnership and professional resource persons whose wealth of experience contributed immensely to the success of the programme. He also expressed appreciation to the heads of the various security agencies for releasing their personnel to participate in the training, assuring them that the Trust Fund would continue to invest in programmes that improve the efficiency and welfare of security operatives.
In his remarks on behalf of the participants, DSC Mathew Femi, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, expressed profound gratitude to the Kogi State Security Trust Fund and the Federal Road Safety Corps for organizing what he described as a highly educative, practical and impactful training.
He stated that the knowledge acquired during the three-day programme had significantly broadened the participants’ understanding of defensive driving, vehicle handling, safety procedures and emergency response techniques.
DSC Mathew, noted that the training would greatly improve their performance and reduce road traffic crashes involving security personnel while carrying out official assignments. He pledged that the participants would put the knowledge gained into practical use in their respective organizations.
The participants unanimously appealed to the Kogi State Security Trust Fund to institutionalize the programme by organizing it on a quarterly basis stressing that regular refresher courses would further improve their competence, confidence and operational effectiveness.
The various security chiefs and representatives present at the ceremony commended the Kogi State Security Trust Fund for its foresight and sustained investment in human capacity development, describing the initiative as timely and beneficial to the security architecture of Kogi State. They pledged their continued support and collaboration with the Trust Fund in its efforts to build a safer and more secure state.
The successful conclusion of the training marks another milestone in the Kogi State Security Trust Fund’s strategic efforts to complement the vision of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State of promoting professionalism, operational excellence and inter-agency collaboration among security organizations through regular training and retraining programmes.
