In an effort to strengthen the healthcare system, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State made a working visit to the Obuburu Primary Healthcare Centre in Adavi LGA on June 9th, 2025. The facility is one of the 88 impact projects launched a few months ago and is currently being upgraded to a Level 2 facility.
Following his visit, Governor Ododo expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress, commending Hon. Commissioner for Health, Hon. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, and KSPHCDA Executive Director, Dr. Mu’azu Musa Omeiza, for their dedication. He emphasized that the visit reflected his administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare development and quality service delivery. The governor also urged contractors to prioritize quality, adhere to specifications, and ensure timely completion.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Muazu Musa Omeiza stated that the “88 PHCs” project is a World Bank-supported initiative aimed at upgrading and revitalizing 88 Primary Healthcare Centers across the state, with a commitment of over N7 billion to improve healthcare delivery and contribute to universal health coverage.
Similarly, the state is upgrading seven PHCs under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), 21 PHCs through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and rehabilitating eight PHCs with support from UNICEF/Global Fund. These initiatives
demonstrate the administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and services.
The governor was accompanied by key officials, including the Chief of Staff, Hon. Alhaji Ali Bello, and the Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Salami Momoh Ozigi Deedat. Their presence underscored the administration’s strong commitment to healthcare development in the state.
The upgrade of Primary Healthcare Centers across Kogi State is a significant step towards improving healthcare delivery and achieving universal health coverage. With Governor Ododo’s leadership and commitment to healthcare development, Kogi State is poised to become a model for healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
