The Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, has received a fresh boost to its student accommodation infrastructure, as the state government formally handed over construction sites to contractors for the Phase 2 male and female hostel projects.
The initiative traces back to the very start of the current administration in 2024, when the governor made student housing one of his first priorities in office. Determined that CUSTECH students should not be forced to live off campus, he commissioned the original male and female hostels early in his tenure, recognizing that residential accommodation on campus has a direct bearing on academic performance, teaching, and learning. Since then, the university has continued to benefit from a steady stream of government-backed projects. Now, with student enrolment rising sharply, the governor has directed that a second phase of hostel construction begin, to ensure accommodation keeps pace with the growing student population.
Speaking at the site handover, the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development,Hon. Abanika Taiye, described the gathering as a direct outcome of the governor’s generosity and commitment to the people. He characterized the governor as a humble, home-grown leader a “chief servant” whose achievements speak for themselves, and a philanthropist genuinely invested in the wellbeing of citizens, particularly students, whom he wants to see thrive in a true home away from home. The Commissioner noted that one of the contractors engaged for the new hostels had recently completed the Treasury House project, commissioned by the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to widespread commendation. He charged both contractors to bring that same standard of expertise and technical know-how to the new site, stressing that the Governor expects nothing less than timely completion, high-quality and standard workmanship, and strict adherence to specifications, with no compromise on materials used. He further disclosed that supervisors from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development would maintain a continuous presence on site to monitor construction and ensure the timely delivery required to pave the way for further university projects.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Engr. Abdulrahman A. Salawu, on behalf of the institution expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for extending the university’s hostel project to a second phase. He described the gesture as a gift the university had not necessarily earned, but one made possible purely through the Governor’s magnanimity. The Vice Chancellor noted that the university would continue to rely on the Commissioner as its point of contact in conveying appreciation to His Excellency. He also issued a direct charge to the contractors: that the integrity of the buildings must never be compromised. As the ultimate end users, he said, the university expects structures built to a standard worthy of being remembere buildings that leave a lasting, positive footprint for generations of students to come.
The Phase 2 male and female hostel projects according to Hon. Abanika mark the latest in a series of infrastructural investments by the state government in CUSTECH Osara, reinforcing its commitment to quality on-campus living and improved academic outcomes for students.
