Following the heavy downpour of rain the previous night, which caused several billboards to collapse and created hazards in parts of the Lokoja metropolis leading to difficulty in accessing affected areas, the Kogi State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KOSSAA) has issued a public warning.

The agency has called on all business owners, practitioners, and the general public to ensure the use of required and appropriate materials for all billboards within the state.

The General Manager of KOSSAA, Hon. Osaseyi Richard, gave the warning at his office on Friday. He stated that since the agency’s inception in 2022 and its full operation in 2024, KOSSAA has carried out massive enforcement against illegal billboards across the state. He added that the agency is responsible for controlling, regulating, monitoring, and managing the mounting of billboards throughout the state.

He further noted that KOSSAA is legally empowered to ensure that any business engaging in outdoor advertisement must be duly registered with the agency for proper regulation and payment of necessary levies.

Hon. Osaseyi emphasized that henceforth, before any billboard is mounted in the state, KOSSAA must inspect the materials to ensure they meet the agency’s standards, in order to prevent environmental hazards in the future.

He pointed out that KOSSAA has come to stay and urged all political parties to engage with the agency as elections draw nearer.

Hon. Osaseyi is also giving a very strict warning to all political supporters erecting billboards without proper documentation with the agency and going through the professional stages of erecting them without the notice or permission of KOSSAA should desist from the act because if found wanting those billboards will be removed, those are the billboards that are affected and they don’t have the standards and the right materials, such acts will not be tolerated

The General Manager also appealed to the general public to cooperate with the agency, noting that it is a growing, revenue-generating body.
