Local government Chairmen at the just concluded Kogi State Strategic Local Government Authority Leadership Dialogue have been told to consolidate on the gains of both National and International interventions aimed at PHCs and develop strategies for sustaining health financing at the local Government level. This was the consensus of leaders at the just concluded dialogue which held at the Reverton Hotel, Lokoja. Speaking at the occasion, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza and the Executive Director, Kogi State Primary HealthCare Development Agency, Dr Muazu Omeiza Musa noted that as LGA Chairmen, they are at the frontline of grassroots governance and play a pivotal role in improving health outcomes for their communities. According to them, Nigeria’s health system is decentralized, with LGAs holding primary responsibility for PHC stressing that recent developments, including the Supreme Court ruling on local government financial autonomy, strengthen their capacity to deliver on the mandate. They said LGA Chairmen are expected to Provide supervision of facilities, staff, accountability for funds, and performance monitoring as well as hold regular reviews of service quality, drug availability, and community feedback and conduct a baseline assessment of all PHC facilities in their LGA including infrastructure, staffing, equipment, and service utilization. At the end of the meeting, participants are expected to have broader knowledge and enhanced understanding of UHC concept and ownership drive at local Government level, have a formation of Peer-learning network of LGA health leaders for structured sharing of governance and PHC best practices and assign LGA Health …
