The Kogi State Government, through the instrumentality of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, on Wednesday commenced a Deployees’ Training and Stakeholders Sensitization program for The Kogi State Government Farmers’ Assessment and Profiling Project.
The 3-day intensive training program, which is aimed at enhancing the capacity of the facilitators to be deployed for the farmers Profiling and Assessment project in Kogi State is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge for effective agricultural profiling and assessment.
In her welcome address, the State Project Coordinator, Chief. Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto – OON, represented by the Environmental Safeguard Officer, Mr. Samson Mopah Benu stated that the initiative is part of the broader ACReSAL Project intervention, which seeks to build climate resilience and sustainable agricultural practices in semi-arid regions.
She explained that the primary aim of the project is to compile accurate data on agro-farmers in Kogi State, including their socio-economic characteristics, crop cultivation, and challenges faced; adding that the data will be used to create a centralized database for policy formulation, planning, and implementation in the agricultural sector.
She explained that, during the training, experts will provide training on modern farming techniques, climate-smart practices, and strategies to accurately assess Farmers’ profiles.
The Project Coordinator urged the participants to take the training seriously, as it would equip them with the necessary skills to drive agricultural development in Kogi State, and enhance their preparedness to collect accurate data from their respective wards.
She commended the Consultant, Pur 3 Awesomeness Ltd, for their dedication to their assignment and encouraged them to work in line with the terms of reference of the assignments to deliver quality and reliable data on farmers in the State.
The Project Coordinator expressed gratitude to the Governor, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for His unwavering support to the ACReSAL Project. She emphasized that, His administration’s leadership and vision for agricultural transformation have been instrumental in ensuring the Project’s success, which promises to bring long term benefits to farmers and enhance agricultural development in Kogi State.
Highlights of the training was the registration of participants, presentation of certificates, and the distribution of tablets and other equipment to facilitate data collection.
