Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has provided reassurance to the students and management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Osara regarding enhanced security measures on the university campus.
During a meeting with 29 students who were rescued from their abductors following an attack on the university campus on May 9, 2024, the Governor emphasized his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of students and educational institutions in the state.
In a demonstration of his administration’s dedication to safeguarding the university community, Governor Ododo pledged to complete the perimeter fencing of the university within 16 weeks.
Additionally, he promised to implement full security surveillance of the campus, equipped with the capability for round-the-clock emergency response by security agencies.
Governor Ododo affirmed his collaboration with the university management to continuously evaluate and enhance the security infrastructure of the school in alignment with the state government’s safe school initiative.
He emphasized his unwavering determination to make education accessible to the youth population in the state, despite challenges.
Furthermore, Governor Ododo reiterated his commitment to fostering a secure learning environment across the state, vowing to combat criminal activities wherever they may arise.
In honor of the two slain students, James Anajuwe and Caleb Musa, the Governor pledged to immortalize their memory.
He also inspected various university projects, including the Senate Building, new hostels, and Demonstration Farms.
The State Commissioner for Education, Honourable Wemi Jones, commended the Governor for his swift actions in rescuing the abducted students.
He offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased students and expressed confidence in the Governor’s efforts to ensure the safety of all students in the state.
