The Kogi State Government’s Workplace Security Campaign has taken its sensitisation drive to Yagba West and Yagba East Local Government Areas, with workers urged to unite in protecting their jobs, promoting sustainable employment and supporting policies aimed at improving their welfare.
The campaign team visited the local government secretariats at Odo-Ere and Isanlu on Wednesday, where government representatives engaged workers on the importance of personal and workplace security, as well as the need for collective action to safeguard their interests.
Addressing workers in the two local government areas, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Kogi West, Comrade Ranti Ojo, PhD, called for a united front among workers towards job sustainability, improved welfare and the protection of the gains recorded under the present administration.
Ojo urged workers to critically assess the performance of the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and make informed decisions based on policies and programmes that directly affect their welfare, livelihoods and families.
He said the achievements recorded by the administration since its assumption of office demonstrated that workers remained an important component of its governance agenda.
The Senior Special Assistant explained that the Workplace Security Campaign was designed around two critical areas—personal security and job security—both of which, he said, required sustained awareness and collective responsibility.
He therefore urged the workers to take the sensitisation seriously and remain vigilant in protecting themselves, their workplaces and their sources of livelihood.
Also speaking, the leader of the campaign team and Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, said the state government remained committed to the welfare and wellbeing of workers.
Edoka pointed to what he described as several achievements of the Ododo administration as evidence of the government’s commitment to responsive and worker-friendly governance.
He called on workers to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ododo, saying continuity was necessary to consolidate the gains already recorded and sustain policies capable of improving the welfare of workers and their families.
At Odo-Ere, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Olorunshola Helen Aduke, expressed satisfaction with the direction of the present administration and declared the workers’ confidence in Governor Ododo.
She subsequently passed a vote of confidence in the Governor on behalf of the workers.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Yagba East, Comrade Moses Oyebode, commended the government for what he described as its worker-friendly policies.
Oyebode, however, appealed to the government to expedite the payment of outstanding gratuities, noting that many retirees were facing serious financial difficulties.
He said timely payment of gratuities would significantly reduce the hardship confronting pensioners and enable them meet their basic needs after years of service to the State.
The visits featured interactive engagements with workers, sensitisation sessions and cultural performances, adding colour to the campaign across the two local government areas.
The Workplace Security Campaign is expected to continue across other parts of Kogi State as the government intensifies engagement with workers on job security, personal safety, welfare and the collective responsibility required to sustain a productive workforce.
