Kogi State Commissioner For Agriculture And Food Security in Kogi State, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, Defends His Ministry’s Budget Proposal For 2025 Before The State Assembly.
In his budget defense, Commissioner Ojomah revealed that the ministry’s total draft budget estimate for 2025 is #14,210,411,662. The main objective of this budget is to bolster food production and security in the upcoming year.
Commissioner Ojomah expressed his unwavering confidence in the leadership of Alhaji Usman Ododo, foreseeing Kogi State as a prominent player in national food production by 2025.
Despite challenges such as drought and floods impacting some farms in specific Local Governments in 2024, the State achieved notable success in food production. Commissioner Ojomah assured that the government will persist in offering essential support and resources to farmers to further enhance agricultural productivity.
Kogi State currently leads in cassava and cashew production, solidifying its position as a significant market center for neighboring states and beyond. The government is capitalizing on this advantage by providing extensive assistance to farmers throughout the state.
Looking forward to 2025, the State aims to amplify production across all targeted crops to uphold its standing as a frontrunner in food production and processing. The government intends to broaden interventions from 10,000 hectares to over 50,000 hectares and is establishing partnerships with agricultural development organizations to cultivate additional cash crops such as Sisal, cocoa, palm trees, and cashews.
Commissioner Ojomah underscored Governor Usman Ododo’s dedication to fully mechanizing agriculture in the State, urging all stakeholders to embrace this vision for a prosperous future.
