In a major welfare boost for federal civil servants serving in Kogi State, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has ordered the immediate allocation of land to them to build their own homes.

The Governor gave the directive on Friday when he received members of the Association of Heads of Federal Establishments in Kogi State at Government House, Lokoja.

Governor Ododo, who described the over 25,000 federal workers in the state as critical partners in development, said his administration is committed to improving their living and working conditions.

Beyond land allocation, the Governor pledged to support the Association’s plan to build a private hostel for students of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), with a clear instruction that the facility be reserved exclusively for female students.

He commended the Association for its Corporate Social Responsibility drive, which includes establishing a primary school and acquiring land for the student hostel project.

According to the Governor, his administration will not abandon the primary school earlier demolished to make way for the new International Market. He has directed the Commissioner for Education to ensure its continued operation in a new location.

He also promised to assist in completing the hostel project, which the Association said will have two blocks and accommodate 68 students, to ease the accommodation crisis facing FUL students.

Governor Ododo further promised to provide Hajj and Jerusalem pilgrimage slots for members and urged them to always assess leadership by performance and track records.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Association and Kogi State Coordinator of the Federal Character Commission, Mr. Gabriel Usman, disclosed that Kogi hosts 114 federal agencies.

Usman said the Association’s interventions in education were deliberate efforts to complement the state government’s development agenda.

He listed their requests to include support for the hostel project, a bus for the Association’s activities, more land for members, pilgrimage opportunities, and the appointment of a Special Adviser on Federal Establishments from among their members.
