Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has approved funds for the payment of 2024/2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for SS3 Students in Public School across the State.

This was made known by the State Commissioner for Education Hon. Wemi Jones in his office on Tuesday 29th of October, 2024 in Lokoja.

Eighteen Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty Four (18,734) would be enrolled for 2024/2025 WAEC Registration as against the Fifteen Thousand Thirty Three (15,033) enrolled in 2023/2024
Registration.

The Commissioner stated that the increase in number from last year might be as a result of some Parents moving their Wards from Private Schools to Public Schools.

He noted that the immediate past Administration of Governor Yahaya Bello having signed into law the Kogi State Free Examination, Registration Bill for Kogi State Students and Pupils in Public Schools and Other Matters Connected therewith, 2024 , it has become the responsibility of Government to pay for all the Internal and External Examination Fees for Students and Pupils in Public Primary and Secondary Schools in the State.

The Commissioner said that the Government of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has continued in the legacies and foundation built by His Predecessor , explaining that upon the Floating of 2024/2025 WAEC, the Ministry approached the Governor for payment of the Fees and the proposal was graciously approved.

According to him , the 2024/2025 WAEC Fees for Students SS3 across the State totalling 18,734 Have been paid by Kogi State Government.

The intention of the State Government about the policy was to make life a bit easier for Parents in the area of payment of WAEC and to address the issue of Out of School Children he said.

He thanked the Principals and School Heads who worked with the Ministry to ensure that a seamless registration exercise was done last year for the job well done and warned that any Principal or Head of School who tried to sabotage the good intention of Government would be severely sanctioned in this exercise.

The Commissioner assured Parents that the State Government would continue with the legacy of Free Examination Payment to Pupils and Students in Public Primary and Secondary Schools in addition to other good ideals that would be coming from the Ministry.

He added that very soon the payment of JAMB and NAPTEB for senior Secondary School Students would be done and Pupils in Primary Six and JSS3 would have their Basic Six and Common Entrance and Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) paid by the State Government.
