Tinubu Commissions Africa’s First Barefoot Renewable Energy College in Kogi

The President, who was represented at the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said the college is the first of its kind on the African continent. According to President Tinubu, the institution is designed to provide practical, hands-on training in solar and other renewable energy technologies, with a special focus on empowering rural communities and producing skilled renewable energy technicians across Africa. He said the establishment of the college demonstrates the Federal Government's commitment to expanding access to clean energy, creating employment opportunities and equipping young Nigerians with relevant technical skills needed for the future economy. Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, commended the Tinubu administration for locating the project in Kogi State, describing it as a strategic investment in human capital development and sustainable economic growth. Governor Ododo said the college would enhance the technical capacity of Kogi youths by providing modern renewable energy skills that would promote job creation, technology transfer and industrial development.
