Kogi Mourns Former Rear Admiral Hamzat Muhammed Sani

Lokoja, July 28, 2026 – The Kogi State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the death of retired Rear Admiral Alhaji Hamzat Muhammed Sani, describing him as an accomplished military officer, elder statesman and one of the state’s most distinguished sons.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo said the late Rear Admiral’s passing was a monumental loss to Kogi State, Nigeria and the people of Ebiraland.

The governor noted that the deceased was among the few indigenes of Kogi State to attain the rank of Rear Admiral in the Nigerian Navy, a feat that brought honour and pride to the state.

According to the statement, the late military officer served the nation with patriotism, discipline and unwavering dedication throughout his career and remained committed to national development even after retirement.

The government also recalled his service as a delegate to the 2005 National Political Reform Conference, where he made valuable contributions to national discourse through his experience, wisdom and statesmanship.

Governor Ododo described the late Rear Admiral as a man who devoted his life to the service of humanity and the advancement of his people, adding that his exemplary leadership, humility and commitment to peace, unity and development would continue to inspire future generations.

The governor extended the condolences of the Kogi State Government to the immediate family of the deceased, the people of Ihima, the Odumi Clan, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, the Ebira Traditional Council and the entire people of Ebiraland over what he described as a painful and irreparable loss.

He prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) would forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family, friends and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
