Kogi L.G Service Commission Trains HODs Health on Efficient Management of PHCS As Panacea for Sustainable Development

      A renewed call for strengthened primary health care (PHC) systems took center stage at a capacity-building workshop organized by the Kogi State Local Government Service Commission for Directors of Primary Health Care across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state. The training workshop which Held today at NULGE house Lokoja, focused on enhancing leadership, accountability, and service delivery within the primary health care system. The theme of the workshop, “Effective and Efficient Management of Primary Health Care: A Panacea for Sustainable Development,” underscored the critical role of grassroots health services in driving long-term socio-economic progress. In his opening Speech, the Chairman of the Commission, Hon Adams Adabenege, emphasized that primary health care remains the first of point of contact and the foundation of a resilient health system, particularly in rural areas. He noted that effective management of PHC services is essential for improving health outcomes, reducing mortality rates, and achieving sustainable development goals. Hon Adabenege applauded His Excellency, the Chief Servant of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for priotising the health of Kogites hence channelling so much resources into ensuring that our primary Health care Centres stand the test of time. Participants at the workshop were taken through sessions on strategic planning, resource management, data-driven decision-making, and community engagement. Speaking at the event, a representative of the Executive Director, Kogi State Primary Health Agency, Dr. Hadiya Sa’id Abubakar, reiterated the government’s commitment to revitalizing the PHC system.

Dr Hadiya stressed that sustainable development cannot be achieved without a healthy population, noting that effective primary health care management is directly linked to improved productivity and economic growth.

Participants expressed optimism that the knowledge gained would significantly enhance their capacity to deliver quality health services at the grassroots level. Many described the workshop as timely and impactful, given the increasing demand for accessible and affordable health care.

The workshop concluded with a call for continuous professional development and stronger collaboration among stakeholders.
