The Kogi State Ministry of Health on Tuesday, 26th 2025 welcomed a delegation from the National and State Malaria Consortium, alongside representatives from Mozambique, to discuss the implementation of the 2025 Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) initiative in the state.

The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adams Abdulazeez Adeiza, extended a warm welcome to the Malaria Consortium team, expressing gratitude for their ongoing support in combating malaria among children under five in Kogi State He highlighted the unwavering commitment of His Excellency, Alhaji Usman Ododo, to the successful implementation of the SMC program, which has been bolstered by the provision of counterpart funding and the successful SMC flag-off event held earlier this year.

In response, Dr. Chibuzo Oguoma, Project Director of the Malaria Consortium, praised the state for fostering an enabling environment for the SMC initiative and for demonstrating ownership of the intervention. His acknowledgment underscores the collaborative efforts necessary for effective malaria . Dr Ake Stephen Oluwarotimi, Program Manager of the State Malaria Elimination Programme, expressed his enthusiasm at hosting the Mozambican delegates for a learning visit to Kogi State. He commended the state government for its robust support of malaria elimination efforts, which have positioned Kogi State as a leader in malaria control initiatives.

This collaborative engagement marks a significant step forward in the fight against malaria, reinforcing the commitment of Kogi State to protect its most vulnerable populace
