Lokoja, August 18, 2025 The Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) and National Chairman of the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions of Nigeria (FOSIECON), Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, has restated his commitment to credible, transparent, and inclusive elections in Nigeria. Speaking at a press briefing in Lokoja after he and seven other commissioners assumed office for a fresh five-year term, Eri said the commission will remain committed to fairness, accountability, and protecting the will of the people. He thanked Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his reappointment and praised the Kogi State House of Assembly for providing the legal framework that supported new electoral reforms in the state. Eri announced that, following the adoption of Federal electoral laws in Kogi State, notice for the next council election will be issued on or before October 25, 2025, in line with the new requirement of a 360-day notice. He explained that the current local government chairmen will complete their two-year tenure under the existing law, but future chairmen will serve three years as provided in the amended law. The Chairman said KOSIEC’s vision is to strengthen public confidence in elections and safeguard democracy. He urged political parties, civil society groups, religious and traditional leaders, security agencies, the media, persons with disabilities, and the electorate to work with the Commission to achieve these goals.
