Kogi State Commissioner for Education Hon. Wemi Jones said efforts would be made to Resuscitate school Gardens program in schools across the state to make learning more practical.

The Commissioner made this known on Tuesday in Lokoja when he received a team led by the State coordinator of Food System Transportation Pathway (FSTP) Mallam Abubakar Tanimu on a courtesy visit.

The commissioner emphasized the need for School Gardens in Schools and promised to give maximum support as well as ensuring that the relevant teachers are trained to carry out the assignment.

According to him, the program would go along way in solving the problems of food security as most farmers especially in the north could no longer assess their farms due to insecurity.

Having School Gardens he said would be appropriate, promising that efforts would be made to encourage Schools to participate in the School Gardens program.

In his address, the State Coordinator of Food System Transportation Pathway (FSTP) Mallam Abubakar Tanimmu gave an overview of the group’s activities in the State.

He explained that the pathway of the food system begins from production before it gets to the market.

He emphasized the need for the establishment and resuscitation of School Gardens and Make it part of academic programs for Students, explaining that having School Gardens would help to make learning more practical especially in subjects like Biology, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

In the company of the State coordinator were the State Nutrition Officer Mallam. Usman Abdulazeez and the Director of Food and Nutrition, Ministry of Education Mr. Sule Abel. In attendance also were Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Hon. Abdullahi Abdulmalik and the Ag. Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Mrs. Omolayo Berikisu Onasare
