The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Salami Momodu Ozigi Deedat, has appealed to the conflicting parties involved in the dispute over the Obadofin stool in Kabba, Kabbabunu Local Government Area of the State to seek a peaceful resolution.
In a meeting with stakeholders from Kabbabunu Local Government Area, Barrister Ozigi and other government officials addressed the crisis stemming from the disagreement in the selection of the Obadofin of Oweland between Chief Olusegun Joseph Are and Chief Julius Arokoyo, both from the Odolu ruling house.
Following presentations by the Obajemu of Oweland, Oba Michael Ibinaiye, and community leader Chief Funsho Olorunfemi representing the two factions, Barrister Ozigi announced the suspension of the selection process indefinitely.
He emphasized that the matter will not be revisited until both sides have embraced peace and harmony.
He expressed regret over the unfortunate events during the June 2024 Oka festival and declared that Kabba Day 2024 will not take place until the chieftaincy dispute is resolved.
Barrister Ozigi stressed that the State Government is keen on preventing a recurrence of the 2024 Oka festival incident.
He cautioned both parties against resorting to violent protests or property destruction, warning that any party engaging in media attacks or issuing inflammatory statements will face severe consequences.
He reiterated that the Governor Ododo-led administration does not politicize chieftaincy matters.
The State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara, advised the contenders to avoid the chaos that has historically accompanied chieftaincy disputes in Kabba.
The Commissioner for Education, Honorable Wemi Jones, urged all parties to acknowledge their role in fostering a peaceful and harmonious society.
