The Kogi State ALGON Chairman and the Executive Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area, Hon. Tosin Olokun has said the sterling performances of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo have put all Council Chairmen on their toes.
In this exclusive interview with the official website of the State Government, kogistate.gov.ng, Hon. Olokun said the Governor has reset the mentality of the people to development-focused governance.
*Can we get to meet you sir?*
I am Hon. Tosin Olokun, the Executive Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area. I am also the ALGON Chairman in Kogi State.
*You were recently elected Chairman via an election. How will you rate the integrity of the election?*
The election was the most transparent in the history of Local Government elections in the State. We campaigned hard and we thank the people of Kogi State for believing in our party as they have always done.
*What are your plans for the people of Yagba West?*
My plans are all in my manifesto which I still keep till date as my guiding pact with the good people of Yagba West. My team and I are determined to unite the people of the Local Government Area, ensure security of lives and property, promote small and medium scale enterprises, promote agriculture and food security, ensure good health, rebound our education and ensure we promote prosperity among our people. With the Governor we have in the state, we cannot fail.
*Now talking about the Governor, how will you rate his administration?*
Conducting the Local Government election alone has shown that our Governor believes in good governance and the rule of law. He gave the people the free hand to elect the people they want at the helm of affairs at the Local Government level. He has improved security in the state and has supported all of us in ensuring security in our respective Local Government Areas. He has also been doing great in infrastructure. In Egbe here in Yagba West Local Government Area, Township Roads are being reconstructed. The people are very happy. He is upgrading Primary Healthcare Centres across the State. We couldn’t have come at a better time. But the blistering pace of the Governor is also a challenge. It means we have to justify our mandate. Our people now know that governance can be really impactful. We thank the Governor for being a worthy example to us all. We will not disappoint our people and we will not disappoint him.
*There were security challenges in your Local Government Area at some point. How are you combating this?*
The Governor supported us to survive the onslaught. It was a big battle but we have triumphed. The Governor was able to mobilize security logistics that helped us greatly. We thank him and we will keep our feet on the ground to ensure we keep criminals away from Yagba West permanently.
*As the ALGON Chairman in Kogi State, how prepared do you think your colleagues are to ensure grassroots development?*
This is the best crop of Chairmen our Local Government Areas have ever got. We are ready and we are already doing a lot at our respective Local Government Areas to improve livelihood. Like I said, the Governor is delivering at the State level, we have no excuse not to replicate his good work. He is offering us a lot of support to shine and we will seize the opportunities. All the Chairmen are ready to set positive records. We are good to go.
*What is your message to the people of Kogi State?*
They should have confidence in Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. He is a God-fearing leader who will continue to prioritize the welfare of the people. On our part as Chairmen, we will continue to do our best to improve the living standards of the people. The people should also support the security efforts of the Government. Don’t harbor criminals, always report criminals to the Government and security agencies. Violence should be completely eschewed. Now that the Government is closer to you with the election of Councillors, explore dialogue with the Government. We will always listen to you. We have a listening Governor, a humble achiever. Let us all support him and work with him.
*Thanks for your time Hon. Olokun for your time.*
The pleasure is mine.
