The warning was made by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, during his recent on-the-spot visit to the estate.

On January 6, 2025, Hon. Abanika Taiye personally oversaw the posting of eviction orders for over 80% of illegal occupants in Phases 1, 2, and 3 of the estate. It was discovered that fraudulent allocations of housing units had taken place, with some individuals selling houses for as low as #200,000. This was deemed a deliberate effort to undermine Federal projects aimed at addressing housing challenges in Kogi State.

The Government, under the leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, will not tolerate any actions that hinder projects meant to benefit the people of Kogi State. Hon. Abanika emphasized that those found guilty after investigations will face legal consequences.

Illegal occupants were urged to vacate the premises peacefully before further enforcement actions are taken. Legitimate applications for housing should be made through proper channels to avoid any issues in the future.

In a meeting held on January 7, 2025, between the Commissioner, representatives of the illegal occupants, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Obadaki Zainab (ESV), the focus was on addressing the issue of illegal occupation and finding a way forward. The Commissioner reiterated the Government’s commitment to providing affordable housing while making it clear that illegal occupation will not be tolerated.

The meeting ended with a resolution to work together to address the issue of illegal occupation and to ensure that the Government and the National Housing Program achieve their objectives.
