In a significant move to address the housing deficit in Kogi State, the state government on Wednesday, March 5, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Family Homes Funds Limited for the construction of 228 semi-detached houses.
The signing ceremony, which took place at the office of the Secretary to the State Government, marks another milestone in the administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, in its commitment to providing affordable housing for residents of the state.
His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Pastor (Mrs.) Folashade Ayoade Arike, PhD, highlighted the strategic location of Kogi State, which shares boundaries with over ten states. She emphasized that Kogi, as the cradle of Nigeria’s existence, plays a pivotal role in the nation’s development. She reiterated the state government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens, noting that Kogi remains open to investors, who are considered partners in progress.
In his opening remarks, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, commended Governor Ododo for his people-oriented leadership. He disclosed that the governor had given him a mandate to address the housing deficit in the state, particularly in Lokoja, the capital. He noted that the ministry had engaged multiple investors in its housing development plans, with Family Homes Funds Limited being one of the first to formalize its partnership through the signing of an MoU.
Hon. Abanika described the agreement as a monumental achievement under Governor Ododo’s administration, which would not only help bridge the housing gap but also contribute to stabilizing rental prices in the state. He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, especially the Secretary to the State Government, for their contributions in making the project a reality.
A representative of Family Homes Funds Limited commended the Kogi State Government for its dedication to improving the welfare of its citizens. He assured the government of the company’s full cooperation in executing the housing project and pledged further developmental investments in the state.
The agreement signals a major step toward enhancing affordable housing accessibility and highlights the Ododo-led administration’s commitment to infrastructural development and economic growth in Kogi State. More partnerships with additional investors are expected in the near future as part of the government’s broader housing initiative.
