The Honorable Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engr. Joseph Oluwasegun, has reaffirmed the State government’s commitment to collaborative initiatives promoting development in the state.

The Commissioner made the declaration on Friday, (01-11-2024) in His office during a meeting with representatives from the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment.

In His opening address, the Environmental Safeguard Officer (ESO), Mr. Micheal Olatunde highlighted the core principles of the Project, emphasizing education and empowerment for adolescent girls in Nigeria. He revealed that 728 schools have been identified for intervention over a five-year period.

While stating the purpose of their visit, He emphasised that to ensure a seamless project execution, developing an environmental and social plan is a crucial precursor to commencing civil work.

He noted that the plan will be instrumental in mitigating potential environmental impacts and fostering community engagement throughout the project’s duration.

Dr. Linda Akpami, an Environmental and Social Management Consultant,who also spoke during meeting, stressed the need for a comprehensive Environmental and Social Management Plan, with the aim of ensuring the project’s sustainability in Kogi State.

Responding, the Commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment to environmental sustainability, emphasizing Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s initiatives to enhance environmental wellbeing and promote sustainable development in Kogi State.

He stated that the AGILE Project aligns with the administration’s vision to promote sustainable development, empower adolescent girls, and enhance the overall well-being of Kogi State’s citizens, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.

He pledged the Ministry’s unwavering support for the project, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and protecting the environment.
