The Kogi State Government has commenced the process of domesticating the National Monitoring and Evaluation Policy to strengthen accountability, improve performance tracking and ensure that government policies, programmes and projects deliver measurable results to the people.

The Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Asiwaju Ashiru Idris, FCA, who was represented by the Special Adviser I to the Governor on Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Olajide Samuel, stated this on Friday, November 6, 2026, at the commencement meeting of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on the domestication of the National Monitoring and Evaluation Policy in Kogi State, held at the Government House, Lokoja.

The Commissioner described the initiative as an important step towards strengthening the state’s institutional framework for monitoring government activities, assessing performance and measuring the impact of public investments on the lives of citizens.

He explained that effective monitoring and evaluation remained essential to ensuring that government policies and programmes were not only properly designed and implemented but also achieved their intended objectives.

According to him, domesticating the national policy would provide Kogi State with a structured and coordinated framework for tracking the implementation of development plans, evaluating government interventions and identifying areas requiring improvement.

He noted that the exercise would also promote evidence-based decision-making, transparency and accountability in the management of public resources, while strengthening the link between budget allocations, project implementation and actual development outcomes.

The Commissioner charged members of the Technical Working Group to approach the assignment with commitment and professionalism, stressing the need to develop a framework that reflects the peculiar needs, priorities and development aspirations of Kogi State while remaining consistent with the national policy.

He further emphasised the importance of collaboration among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), noting that effective monitoring and evaluation required reliable data, institutional cooperation and a shared commitment to achieving measurable development results.

The domestication process is expected to strengthen the state’s monitoring and evaluation architecture, improve coordination across MDAs and provide a more effective mechanism for assessing the performance and impact of government policies, programmes and projects.

The initiative aligns with the administration’s commitment to strengthening public sector performance, ensuring prudent use of public resources and translating government plans and investments into tangible benefits for the people of Kogi State.
