By Abah Benjamin Eneojoh September 21, 2026 Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has led the state in mourning the death of former Governor Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, personally visiting the late former governor's family at their Abuja residence to offer his condolences and solidarity. Governor Ododo, accompanied by former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, CON, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Barr. Abdullahi Bello, and other senior government officials, made the condolence visit on Sunday, shortly after the death of the former governor at the age of 77. Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who served as Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012, remains an important figure in the political history of the state. His passing has therefore been received as a significant loss to Kogi, particularly among Kogites who remember his years of service as governor. At the Abuja residence, Governor Ododo joined the family in mourning and conveyed the sympathy of the government and people of Kogi State. The solemn visit also brought together past and present leadership of the state, with former Governor Yahaya Bello joining the sitting governor to honour the memory of the late Ibrahim Idris. Governor Ododo has, through the condolence visit, prayed that the Almighty Allah forgive the shortcomings of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, grant him eternal rest and give his family, friends, associates and the people of Kogi State the strength to bear his loss.
