… Commissioner backs grassroots talent hunt, hails Mopa College’s Provost’s Cup

Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe, has declared that sports have come to stay in the state, assuring stakeholders of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s continued support for youth engagement, talent discovery and sports development.

Anyebe made the declaration at the grand finale of the 2026 Provost’s Cup at the Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Mopa, where he reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to using sports as a platform for promoting unity, peace and youth development.

He said the government would sustain its attention to sports, assuring athletes, stakeholders and sports enthusiasts of continued support for initiatives that create opportunities for young people.

The Commissioner commended the Provost, Dr. Ibrahim Muhammad Kebiru, for organising the week-long competition, describing the event as a valuable platform for student engagement and sporting development.

He pledged the Ministry’s support for the college’s sporting activities and urged the Provost to sustain efforts to nurture talents and strengthen sports participation.

In his remarks, Dr. Kebiru said the Provost’s Cup was designed to foster unity among students and strengthen ties between the college, the local government and the state.

He appreciated Governor Ododo for his support for the institution and pledged to sustain effective leadership, while also thanking Anyebe for attending the grand finale and supporting sports development.

The competition featured football, volleyball, basketball, lawn tennis and cultural displays, among other activities.

The Commissioner was accompanied by Comrade Michael Achor Joshua, Chairman of the forthcoming Governor Ododo All-Campus Games in Kogi State.
