LOKOJA – The Kogi State Government has taken a major step towards transforming healthcare delivery with the inauguration of the State Digital Health Architecture Committee, signaling the commencement of the adoption and domestication of the Nigeria Digital Health Architecture (NDHA).

The initiative is aimed at modernising the state’s health system through digital technology, strengthening health information management, improving service delivery, and accelerating the achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Inaugurating the committee at the Confluence Hall of Kogi State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja, yesterday 7th July 2026, The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, described the adoption of the National Digital Health Architecture as a critical component of Nigeria’s ongoing health sector reforms.

He explained that the initiative aligns with the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII), launched in December 2023 following the adoption of the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp), a framework designed to promote coordinated planning, financing, and implementation of healthcare programmes across the country.

According to the Commissioner, the Federal Government established the Nigeria Digital Health Initiative (NDHI) to drive digital transformation within the health sector, while the National Digital Health Architecture provides a unified framework for integrating digital health systems across all states and local government areas.

Dr. Adeiza further disclosed that the Federal Government, in June 2026, established the National Health Technology and Data Analytics Office to provide the technical support, standards, and digital infrastructure required for the effective implementation of the initiative nationwide.

He urged members of the newly inaugurated committee to provide the leadership needed to ensure the successful implementation of the digital health agenda in Kogi State.

Earlier, the State Digital Health Focal Person, Mr. Austin Umameh, said Kogi State had already made significant progress in aligning with the national framework.

According to him, the state has appointed a Digital Health Focal Person, created a dedicated budget line for digital health, and aligned its digital health strategy with the National Digital Health Enterprise Architecture.

He disclosed that the next phase would involve strengthening the state’s digital health governance structure and commencing the domestication of the National Policy on Enterprise Architecture for Digital Health.

Mr. Umameh noted that the milestones underscore Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration’s commitment to building a resilient, technology-driven healthcare system capable of improving access to quality healthcare, enhancing data-driven decision-making, and delivering better health outcomes for citizens.

Health experts believe the successful implementation of the Nigeria Digital Health Architecture will improve interoperability among health information systems, strengthen health data management, support evidence-based policy formulation, and position Kogi State among Nigeria’s leading states in digital healthcare innovation.
