The Kogi State Government has pledged to prioritize the development of basketball within the state, aiming to elevate the sport's profile and foster youth engagement. In a statement delivered at the inauguration of the Kogi State Basketball Association in Lokoja, the Youth and Sports Development Commissioner assured attendees of the government's commitment to basketball under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo's administration. Represented by the Kogi State Director of Sports, Mr. Igah Abel James, Commissioner Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe emphasized the administration's focus on nurturing basketball, particularly in rural areas, to promote youth development and progress. Hon. Anyebe highlighted the administration's intention to collaborate with the Basketball Association to enhance sports development across the state. He urged the newly inaugurated executives of the Basketball Association to generate innovative ideas to advance the sport. Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Chairman of the Kogi State Basketball Association and Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, reaffirmed his dedication to the sport's growth. He praised the Kogi State Government for its efforts in promoting sports activities. With the inauguration of the new executive team, there is optimism that basketball in Kogi State will reach new heights.
