The Kogi State Government has officially inaugurated the State Laboratory Technical Working Group, tasking its members with the mission to transform medical laboratory practices within the state. During the inauguration ceremony held in Lokoja, the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, emphasized the importance of this initiative. Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Momoh Steven, Dr. Abdulazeez urged the committee to leverage their professional expertise to elevate the quality of medical laboratory services across Kogi State. He highlighted the necessity for collaboration among key stakeholders in the sector to ensure effective data management, accurate and reliable diagnoses, and the implementation of a laboratory quality management system in alignment with ISO 15189: 2022 standards. The Commissioner assured the group of the government's full support in achieving their objectives. Mr. Francis Ibeke, representing the Federal Ministry of Health, commended the establishment of the group in Kogi State, describing it as a positive development. The Chairman of the technical working group, Mr. Aaron Ayodele, acknowledged the significant responsibilities ahead but expressed confidence that the team, composed of skilled health professionals, would successfully fulfill its mandate. Additionally, the Vice Chairman of the technical working group and State Chairman of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Comrade Obajemu Samuel, emphasized the group's role in curbing quackery and promoting evidence-based medical laboratory services.
