Kogi State joined the global community today in celebrating International Women’s Day 2026, honoring the strength, resilience, and contributions of women in building families, communities, and the local economy.

This year’s theme “Give to Gain” highlights the transformative role of the Nigeria for Women Project – Scale Up (NFWP-SU) in empowering women and uplifting their livelihoods across the state.

Through the formation and strengthening of Women Affinity Groups (WAGs), financial literacy training, savings mobilization, livelihood support, and capacity-building programs, the NFWP-SU is enabling women at the grassroots level to achieve economic independence and play a more active role in community development.

Dr. Esther Ameadaji, the State Project Coordinator for the Nigeria for Women Project – Scale Up in Kogi State, in her message to women on this significant day, emphasized the project’s impact in a statement marking the occasion.

“Across numerous communities, women are uniting through WAGs to save collectively, support each other, start businesses, and improve household incomes,” Dr. Ameadaji stated. “These efforts are not only boosting livelihoods but also amplifying women’s voices in decision-making and enhancing their participation in community development.”

She also acknowledged the supportive role of the Kogi State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

“The commitment of the state government to inclusive development and women’s empowerment has been instrumental in creating an enabling environment for the success of the NFWP-SU in Kogi State,” Dr. Ameadaji added.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain” resonates strongly with the ongoing efforts in Kogi State, where investments in women’s economic empowerment are yielding tangible results in poverty reduction and social cohesion.

As the celebration continues, stakeholders reaffirm their commitment to advancing women’s inclusion, particularly for the most vulnerable, and promoting sustainable development across the state.

“When women are empowered, families thrive, communities grow stronger, and the entire state moves forward,” Dr. Ameadaji noted.

Happy International Women’s Day to the inspiring women of Kogi State. Together, let’s continue to foster hope, empower women, and build a more inclusive and prosperous society.
