The Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Asiwaju Idris has emphasized the importance of the ongoing defence of submissions by Local Government officials as part of the preparation of the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure plan (MTEP).

Speaking at the commencement of the MTEP defence sessions, the Director of Planning Social Service and Regional Development, Mrs Jeniffer Akubo, who represented the Commissioner noted that the exercise is a critical step in ensuring that the 2026 budget reflects realistic priorities and aligns with the vision of the administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for inclusive and sustainable development across all sectors.

Hon. Idris stated that the defence process enables each Local Government to justify its proposed programmes and projects, ensuring that fiscal allocations are efficiently utilized to address pressing needs at the grassroots.

“This defence exercise is not just a procedural requirement , it is a key mechanism for accountability and strategic alignment. It ensures that every proposed expenditure contributes directly to improving the quality of life of our people and advancing the development goals of the Ododo administration,” the Commissioner remarked.

She commended the proactive participation of Local Government officials, noting that their input is vital in capturing the realities, aspirations, and service delivery priorities of the grassroots population.

Hon. Idris further explained that the Medium-Term Expenditure Plan serves as a fiscal planning tool that strengthens transparency, predictability, and consistency in government spending.

“The Ododo administration has continued to prioritize evidence-based planning. By engaging Local Government representatives in this process, we are ensuring that development is not only top-down but also community-driven and people-focused,” he added.

Hon. Idris reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that the resulting 2026 budget embodies the administration’s vision of ‘turning vision into prosperity for every Kogite’, emphasizing that strong collaboration between state and local governments remains crucial to achieving shared prosperity and balanced development
