Kogi Ministry of Health Launches Comprehensive Family Planning Training for Health Extension Workers in Public Health Sector

The launch ceremony was officiated by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health on behalf of the Honourable Coordinating Commissioner for Health. The event took place at Edge Drive Hotel in Lokoja from September 14th to 22nd.

During the ceremony, the Commissioner expressed appreciation to MSI Reproductive Choices for organizing the training program, which aligns with the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of its healthcare workforce.

The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Steven Momoh, emphasized the significance of the training program, stating, “The knowledge you will acquire over the next few days will not only enhance your performance but also contribute significantly to the improvement of the health sector in Kogi State.”

He underscored that this training is not merely a formality; it demands active participation, dedication, and commitment from all attendees. “I urge you to take this program seriously and maximize this opportunity,” he added.

Mr. Momoh highlighted the crucial role of health officers from local governments, noting, “You are the backbone of our healthcare system. Your direct interactions with communities provide essential healthcare services that save lives.”

He encouraged participants to:

Be punctual and consistent in attending the training sessions and
Actively engage in discussions, sharing experiences, and posing questions.
Take notes and reflect on the lessons learned, considering how to apply them in your work – Network and collaborate with colleagues from other local governments, sharing best practices, and learning from one another.

He concluded by emphasizing that this training program presents a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth, as well as the chance to make a meaningful impact. I encourage each of you to approach this program with seriousness, commitment, and a determination to maximize its benefits.

Dr. Musa Omeiza Muazu, Executive Director of the Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, also addressed the participants during the opening ceremony. He underscored the critical importance of fully engaging in the training program and attending all sessions. Additionally, he expressed concern regarding the inadequate data management systems in local government facilities, attributing these shortcomings to inefficiencies among personnel at the local government level.
