The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr Salami Momodu Ozigi Deedat received the Commissioner for Health, Hon Abdulazeez Adams led delegates from the Kogi State Ministry of Health.
The Commissioner who was accompanied by management staff of the Ministry of Health expressed their intention to sensitize members of staff of rthe Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and later local government employees, on Health Insurance Scheme.
He revealed that the Government as the employer contributes 5% of basic salaries of all employees while each employee contributes 1.75% towards the scheme. They explained that based on percentage contribution, high income earners pay more than low income earners but both of them enjoy the same services.
According to him, over 14,000 state civil servants with over 45,000 dependants are currently registered on the scheme and have been provided with succor in the face of high cost of health care services as a registered employee pays only 10% of cost of drugs.
Responding, Barr Deedat commended the scheme, describing it as a lofty initiative. He revealed that although the advantages are enormous, government needs time to prepare and put its machinery in motion.
