The construction of the Lokoja Ultramodern International Market is currently underway, with foundational structural engineering works actively progressing at the site.
Abanika Taiye, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, emphasized that this project is poised to significantly enhance the commercial landscape of the state’s economy while also bolstering the state’s revenue base.
The Commissioner highlighted that the market development is a three-year initiative, with contractors diligently working to adhere to established standards and specifications. He noted that this project is a key component of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s broader urban renewal development plan.
According to Commissioner Abanika, the market is designed to consolidate various markets within the Lokoja metropolis into a single location. This strategic move aims to alleviate traffic congestion and facilitate smoother vehicular movement throughout the state capital.
Honorable Abanika Taiye shared these insights during a recent tour with the state media consultant and his team, where they reviewed ongoing and completed projects under the Ministry’s purview.
During the visit to the Lokoja Ultramodern Market site, Hon. Abanika provided an update on the progress of various facilities under construction. He highlighted that several key structures, including Warehouses 1, 2, and 3, Tech Hubs 1 and 2, a fire station, a security post, an open market, lockup shops, the main gate, a clinic, an office block, a bank block, the entrance gate, two exits, a gatehouse, places of worship, andr perimeter fencing, are currently at various stages of development. These stages include lintel work, binding, ironworks, excavation, and foundation construction.
In addition, Hon. Abanika addressed the status of the Audit Complex, which is designed to accommodate both state and local government auditors. He credited this initiative to the generosity of His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.
The construction of the Audit Complex is nearing completion, with all work now in the final stages of finishing.
