In a significant step towards enhancing the educational infrastructure of Kogi State University,Kabba, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo represented by the Commissioner for Education,Hon Wemi Jones, and Honorable Abanika Taiye Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development today 21-11-2024 handed over four more projects sites to reputable contractors.
The projects include the female hostel complex,the male hostel,the Senate Tower, and the Faculty of Science building
The Vice Chancellor of the University,Prof. Kehinde I.T Eniola in his welcome address, expressed gratitude to the Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo the immediate past Governor His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello and the Commissioners for their support. He highlighted the significance of the projects, including the construction of modern hostels,the Senate Tower, and the Faculty of Science building as potential infrastructure for conducive learning environment.
The Pro-Chancellor,who is also the Chairman Governing Council, Prof.Suleiman O.E Sadiku, thanked the immediate past and present governors, the commissioners and the vice chancellor for their support to the University, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure development in enhancing the University’s academic excellence.
In another separate remark, the University’s Director for Physical Planning, Dr. Suleiman Hassan.O. who officially introduced the projects and the contractors handling each of the projects, advised them to give their best towards delivering quality and timely jobs.
The Obaro of Kabba,HRM Oba(Dr) Solomon Owoniyi, who was also in attendance appreciated the immediate former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello for his prompt action towards the establishment of the University. He also thanked His Excellency Alhaji Usman Ododo for the continuity of the projects of the past administrations. In his observation,he said the University should try and collaborate with private investors as far as housing is concerned stating that the government cannot do it alone.
The Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development emphasized government commitment to providing quality infrastructure, citing the projects as a testament to this commitment. He again thanked the Governor for his continuous kind gesture and charged the contractors for quality and timely delivery of their jobs.
The State Project Consultant, Engineer Suleiman Kabiru cautioned the contractors not to breach the contract against the design given to them and also to avoid the use of substandard materials.
The Hon Commissioner for Education who represented the Governor appreciated the immediate past Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the present Governor His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Hon Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development,the Pro- Chancellor , the Vice Chancellor,as well as the Royal Fathers present.
He further told the contractors that the message from His Excellency Alhaji Usman Ododo is that the contracts were awarded to them based on their past quality jobs delivered. For that reason, according to him, the Governor is still expecting quality and timely jobs delivery, advising them to take the jobs seriously and if possible finish before schedule as there are more projects coming up across the various tertiary institutions in the state, stressing that delivering good and quality jobs will guarantee them more jobs from Kogi Government. He also promised that a lot of good things are expected in the University.
The handing over ceremony took place, with the Commissioners and the Obaro of Kabba symbolically handing over the project notes to the contractors in the precence of the Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries.
The Registrar of the University,Dr Usman Ahmodu,in his vote of thanks, expressed gratitude to Governor Usman Ododo and the dignitaries for their presence and support.
