The Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has inaugurated the State HIV/Health Oversight Committee today, Thursday 24th October, 2024.
The official inauguration took place in Lokoja, the state capital where he was ably represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Adams Abdulaziz.
Dr Abdulaziz highlighted that the State HIV Response Team is saddled with the responsibilities to put together the resources for the control and management of HIV in the state to serve as a coordinating arm and monitoring arm for the entire HIV control programmes in the state.
It was part of the Nigeria Sustainability HIV Impact Project (NSHIP/G2G), a U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC)-funded initiative to consolidate the gains and ensure sustainability of HIV control programs across Nigeria.
During the meeting, it was reviewed that in February, 2023 and May, 2024, a joint assessment was conducted across the 19 and 13 CDC-supported states in Nigeria respectively, and Kogi State’s performance was 38%(2023) and 79% (2024) in terms of readiness for the project.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo urged CIHP and other NGOs to engage in grassroots sensitization so that the people will know where to go and what to do at the right time, noting that grassroots sensitization is a key factor that should be upheld for the citizenry.
He assured the NGOs and other bodies that the State Ministry of Information and Communications has the State Broadcasting Corporation that’s ready to operate for 24hours per day, The Graphic Newspaper and other mediums that would further convey and disseminate adequate information to the citizenry even down to the grassroots.
