In a crucial step towards effective allocation of resources to the state MDAs, the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning has commenced the 2025 Budget Technical Defense.
The Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Hon. Asiwaju Idris, said the Technical Session is aimed at ensuring that all proposed projects in the 2025 budget are fully in line with the policies of the Alh. Usman Ododo’s led administration.
The Commissioner was represented by the Permanent Secretary of Budget Mr. Olajide Samuel.
In his Opening remark, Hon. Idris stated that the yearly exercise underscores the administration’s commitment to sustainable development and fiscal responsibility.
He emphasized that the primary objective of the Budget Technical Defense is to rigorously evaluate each proposed project for its alignment with the strategic goals set forth by the administration.
According to him, It is imperative that every project we propose not only serves the immediate needs of our people but also reflects our long-term vision for growth, development, and transparency.
The Commissioner used the medium to call on all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to provide thorough justifications for projects implemented in the previous year, stating that we must ensure that every investment we make is accountable and serves the public interest.
As stewards of public funds, MDAs are expected to maintain transparency and integrity in their reporting,
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of honest communication, urging agencies to refrain from being economical with the truth. “It is vital that we present accurate information. Misrepresentation can lead to a misallocation of funds and ultimately hinder our progress the Commissioner warned.
In addition to transparency, Hon, Idris also raised the issue of effective record-keeping and data management within the ministries. Accurate records and data are essential for informed decision-making and strategic planning. Ministries must prioritize rigorous documentation and data analysis to support their project proposals,” he added.
The Commissioner has indicated that these technical defense sessions will not only facilitate a constructive dialogue about each proposed project but will also promote accountability and diligence within the MDAs.
By aligning the budget with the administration’s policies, the government aims to ensure that the funds allocated are used effectively to meet the needs of the public.
This is a collaborative effort to enhance governance and make the 2025 budget a roadmap for progress.
