
Kogi State Government is set to host its maiden Half Marathon on Thursday, January 22, 2026, in Lokoja, the state capital.
The event is aimed at promoting youth development, healthy living, sports excellence, and tourism, while showcasing Lokoja as a hub for sporting and recreational activities.
Briefing messmen in his office on Friday in Lokoja, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for creating an enabling environment for youth and sports development.
According to him, the
Marathon aligns with the administration’s commitment to empowering young people through sports, fostering unity, and positioning Kogi State as a destination for national and international sporting events.
He called on corporate organizations, development partners, sports bodies and enthusiasts, and the public to support and participate in this historic event.
The Commissioner expressed optimism that the government will continue to deliver on its promises, citing the administration’s excellent record in youth and sports development, infrastructure, and human capital development as heart warming.
Hon. AridaOjo Monday Anyebe assured that Proper medical check and traffic measures will be put in place to forestall traffic hold up.
Earlier, the Secretary of the Central Planning Committee, Achor Michael who spoke on behalf of the Chairman of the planning committee, noted that necessary arrangements are being put in place to ensure a successful event to mark the Governor’s second year in office.

The Half Marathon, according to the planning, will begin from Felele bus stop at 7am, to Crusher, through Zone eight roundabout down to Paparanda square.
The event will Feature Professional and amateur runners, safety and medical measures, cash prizes, with recognition for outstanding performers.
The APC Chairmanship candidate in Olamaboro Local Government Area, NYCN State officials, some political appointees and other stakeholders witnessed the briefing.
