The Kogi State Government has expressed its appreciation to the World Health Organization (WHO) for its assistance in the state’s response to the recent floods. Mrs. Docas rr Emenike, the Permanent Secretary of the Kogi State Ministry of Health, represented the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, at the After-Action Review (AAR) meeting. She conveyed gratitude to WHO for funding the post-flood intervention in the nine flood-affected local government areas.

Dr. Abdulazeez highlighted the successful implementation of the program and the importance of the meeting to assess activities and identify areas for enhancement. He stressed the significance of risk communication and community engagement in preventing disease spread and promoting healthy practices. The Kogi State Government has established a Flood Disaster Response Team to manage its flood response efforts.

The team has collaborated closely with WHO and other partners to provide assistance to affected communities. Dr. Ahmed Attah, WHO’s focal person in Kogi State, emphasized the necessity of fostering more interactive collaboration among stakeholders. He underscored the importance of better organizing stakeholders to expand the committee set to be established early next year.

This committee will collaborate to enhance field planning and improve responses to future challenges. The partnership between Kogi State and WHO is anticipated to yield positive outcomes, particularly in emergency response and disease prevention. With a more structured and expanded team in place, the state will be better prepared to address future health crises.

Hon . Sandra Musa, the Special Adviser on Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), commended the Kogi State government for its proactive response to the recent floods. Hon. Sandra also recognized the contribution of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the state.

Pharmacist Buhari who was Speaking at the meeting, acknowledged the intensive efforts made by staff in responding to the flood emergency. He thanked everyone involved and expressed appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

Other stakeholders at the meeting, including representatives from the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Kogi State Ministry of Health, also commended the state government and WHO for their efforts in responding to the flood emergency. They emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and support in addressing the needs of affected communities.

The Kogi State government has established a Flood Disaster Response Team to mitigate the impact of floods in the state. The team is responsible for coordinating the state government’s flood response strategies and implementing the State Action Plan on Flooding. The state government’s efforts in responding to the floods have been widely commended by stakeholders, including the World Health Organization.

The Kogi State government has also appealed to the Federal Government for support in responding to the flood emergency. The state government established 48 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps across the state to provide relief to affected communities during the 2024 flooding.

The Kogi State government’s efforts in responding to the recent floods, with support from WHO and other stakeholders, demonstrates the importance of collaboration and coordination in emergency response situations. As the state continues to work towards mitigating the impact of floods, the people of Kogi State can expect to see improvements in healthcare delivery and emergency response.
