In a bid to seek divine guidance and intervention, the Kogi State Head of Civil Service, Dr. Elijah Evinemi, FCA, on Tuesday, 8th July 2025, hosted a Mid-Year Interdenominational Prayer Session for the State and the Civil Service at the Secretariat Conference Hall, Lokoja.
The Head of Service, who is also the visioner of the initiative, explained that the prayer session became imperative in light of the prevailing challenges facing the nation, and by extension, the state and its civil service.
According to Dr. Evinemi, “We cannot ignore the spiritual dimension of leadership and governance. “At a time like this, it is important that we come together, regardless of religious affiliation, to seek the face of God for peace, progress, and renewed strength in service”, he stated.
Dr. Evinemi charged civil servants to remain steadfast, united, and committed to excellence in service delivery. He also emphasized the importance of regular prayer, ethical conduct, and moral consciousness in the discharge of their official duties.
The interfaith session featured Christian and Muslim prayers, led by Pastor Paul Funsho, Chaplain of the State Secretariat Chapel, and Imam Ibrahim Haruna, Chief Imam of the State Secretariat Mosque.
Both clerics offered heartfelt supplications for divine wisdom, stability, and prosperity of Kogi State, as well as for the wellbeing of both active and retired civil servants across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Special prayers were also offered for the Chief Servant of the State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, Governor of Kogi State, in recognition of his continuous strides in ensuring good governance and the welfare of civil servants.
The clerics noted that “every good deserves a good reward,” and prayed for God’s continued guidance, protection, and success for the Governor as he continues to lead the state.
The spiritually uplifting event was attended by Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and staff from various MDAs, who gathered in a solemn atmosphere of reflection, unity, and spiritual rejuvenation.
The prayer session reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to promoting not just professional efficiency, but also spiritual and moral values within the state workforce.
