Today Friday, November 7, 2025, the Kogi State Ministry of Health, in partnership with the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA), the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and the World Bank-supported IMPACT Project, inaugurated 80 revitalized Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities across the state as part of Phase I of its healthcare revitalization initiative. The event also included the official handover of essential health equipment and medical supplies to enhance healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.
In his keynote address at the ceremony, Governor Usman Ododo lauded the collaborative efforts between the state, federal agencies, and international partners such as the World Bank. He affirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining investments in the health sector and pledged that additional PHC facilities would be revitalized in the next phase of the project.
Governor Ododo emphasized that improving healthcare delivery remains a top priority for his administration, noting that the revitalization of 80 PHC centers under Phase I is merely the beginning of a broader plan to ensure that every Kogi citizen benefits from accessible, efficient, and affordable healthcare services.
In his remarks, the Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza hailed the initiative as a landmark achievement in the ongoing transformation of Kogi’s health sector. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving universal health coverage by ensuring that every community has access to quality and affordable healthcare.
Dr. Muyi Aina, Executive Director of the NPHCDA, also spoke, commending the Kogi State Government for its active participation in national health development initiatives. He assured that the federal government, through the NPHCDA, will continue to collaborate with the state to expand access to primary healthcare services, enhance infrastructure, and strengthen health systems.
During the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Muazu Musa Omeiza, Executive Director of the Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, underscored the agency’s significant achievements in transforming the state’s healthcare system. He emphasized that the revitalized PHC facilities will improve access to quality healthcare services, reduce maternal and child mortality rates, and enhance overall community well-being.
Dr. Omeiza expressed gratitude to Dr. Muyi Aina, Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, for his visionary leadership and unwavering support for primary healthcare reforms nationwide. He highlighted Dr. Aina’s pragmatic and inclusive approach as a key driver of progress within the PHC system.
He also acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders, including local government chairmen, development partners, and community leaders, for their ongoing commitment and collaboration in ensuring the project’s success. Dr. Omeiza assured that this commissioning marks the first phase of a comprehensive plan, with subsequent phases set to expand coverage to additional facilities across the state.
Climax of the event, outstanding Primary Health Care staff were recognized and presented with awards of excellence across the three senatorial districts of Kogi State, in acknowledgement of their exceptional performance and dedication to service. These awards aim to motivate healthcare workers to maintain high standards and commitment in delivering quality healthcare to the populace.
