The Kogi State ministry of commerce and industry convened a strategic meeting to access departmental performance, address pressing challenges, and chart a course for improved service delivery and efficiency.
Chaired by the Honorable Commissioner for Commerce & Industry, Hon. Muhammed Muktar Shuaibu, the meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Hon. Lamidi Salihu, along with Directors and senior officials from various departments.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Shuaibu praised the dedication of ministry staff and stressed the importance of teamwork, innovation, and accountability.
He emphasized the need for all departments to work together to strengthen operations, identify areas for improvement, address challenges, and fulfill the ministry’s mandate to the people of Kogi State.
During the meeting, heads of various departments provided updates on their activities, achievements, and challenges. Key issues raised included staff shortages, lack of work tools, financial constraints, and the need for better inter-agency collaboration.
The Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives departments highlighted the critical need for new personnel due to impending retirements that could impact efficiency. The Commerce Department emphasized the importance of innovative business initiatives to boost revenue collection, while the Accounts Department called for improved budget allocations and timely release of funds.
In response to the presentations, Hon. Shuaibu assured the directors and staff that their concerns would be addressed, with a focus on staffing, funding, and operational efficiency.
He acknowledged the staffing gap and pledged to work with the Head of Service to recruit qualified professionals to address the issue.
Additionally, I urge all departments to formally document their requests and challenges so we can follow up effectively,” he stated.
On revenue generation, he emphasized the need for creativity and innovation.
“We must move beyond traditional methods of revenue collection. Departments should propose business-friendly initiatives that will boost our internally generated revenue (IGR) while supporting local enterprises,” he added.
The *Permanent Secretary, Hon. Lamidi Salihu*, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to addressing these challenges and ensuring a more effective working environment.
“The contributions of every staff member are valued, and we will take necessary steps to improve working conditions. I encourage everyone to remain diligent and proactive in their duties,” he said.
One of the key resolutions from the meeting was the approval of a new Business Association Framework aimed at organizing and formalizing local businesses across the state. This initiative will provide structure, facilitate government support, and enhance quality control for businesses in Kogi State.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the Ministry’s commitment to improving efficiency, fostering innovation, and addressing key operational challenges.
