The Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, has been honoured with the Best Commissioner of the Year in Agriculture Award by the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Kogi State chapter, in recognition of his contributions to agricultural development in the state.

Presenting the award, the State Chairman of AFAN, Alhaji Salihu Adobanyi, said the honour was bestowed on the Commissioner after a careful assessment of his performance and commitment to the growth of the agricultural sector.

According to him, Hon. Ojomah has demonstrated dedication and leadership in implementing policies and programmes aimed at improving food production and supporting farmers across the state.
Alhaji Adobanyi noted that the Commissioner has effectively complemented the efforts of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in making agriculture more attractive and profitable. He particularly commended the provision of tractors, improved seedlings, and other agricultural inputs to farmers, describing these interventions as key factors in boosting productivity and ensuring food security in the state.

The AFAN Chairman further disclosed that the association would soon hold its state congress to elect new officials to manage its affairs. He appealed to the state government and other relevant stakeholders to provide moral and logistical support to ensure a smooth and successful congress.

In his response, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, expressed gratitude to AFAN for the recognition, describing the award as an encouragement to intensify efforts toward uplifting the welfare and living standards of farmers in the state. He said the award would further motivate him to sustain and expand agricultural programmes that directly impact farmers.

Hon. Ojomah dedicated the award to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, whom he described as a strong supporter of agricultural development. He noted that agriculture remains the backbone of the economy and described it as the richest and most respected sector globally due to its role in food security, employment, and economic growth.

The Commissioner commended the leadership of AFAN for its organisational strength and commitment to farmers’ interests. He congratulated the association in advance on its planned congress and assured members of the ministry’s full support to ensure a peaceful and transparent election process.

Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Moses Dare, praised AFAN for recognising the efforts of the Commissioner. He described Mr. Ojomah as a kind-hearted, selfless, and highly approachable leader who has continued to demonstrate competence and dedication in advancing agricultural development in Kogi State.
